Design for Circular Construction
Introduction
What will be the episode about ?
Circularity should be integrated from an early design stage and has consequences over the building’s entire life cycle. So when, where and how can circular design principles be implemented?
The discussion identifies key opportunities by breaking down the building design phase into materials, structures and practices in order to improve circularity in our built environment. The guests also highlight future opportunities for circular construction.
This episode was researched, written, produced and edited by Océane Sanglard, Dr. Verena Göswein, Ana Mestre and Henrique Duarte.
Moderator
Who will moderate the discussion ?
Verena is a senior consultant at 3drivers and the project manager of Circular EcoBIM. Her interdisciplinary research improves the understanding of sustainable construction materials considering different spatial and temporal dynamics. Besides her work at 3drivers, she is a post-doctoral research associate at the Chair of Sustainable Construction at ETH Zurich. Moreover, Verena is an ESG manager at FREO Group, an international real estate developer.
Guests
Who will take part in the discussion?
An architect by training, Joana is currently doing her PhD in the decarbonization of the existing building stock, the Circular Economy and the use of BIM for circularity issues. Within the Circular EcoBIM project, her interest has focused, among other things, on the development of a plugin to assess the circularity of buildings.
A structural and architectural engineer by training, Danielle is a senior lecturer in architectural engineering at Sheffield University. A specialist in circular economy, design for deconstruction and embodied carbon, her research explore opportunities to reduce the environmental impact of buildings across their lifespan.
