Final Event Circular EcoBIM

October 24, 2022

After two years of hard work, we had the pleasure to present the results of the Circular EcoBIM project, promoted in a final event in Lisbon on the 3rd of October.

The event was full of interesting presentations about the developed tools, which include Revit plugins for automated LCA and circularity assessment, a digital twin tool and a relational database. You can find the full recording on YouTube.

EEA Grants, the funding agency of this project, officially opened the event. The presentation of the project results followed, where some of the partners had the chance to highlight the most interesting results the project has achieved. The presentations were followed by a roundtable about the future of digitization of circular construction. To sum it up: the project contributes to the body of knowledge in two ways: by improving the methodology for building circularity analysis and by producing the necessary software tools for building practitioners. However, we need policymakers to step up and provide the industry with the much-needed frameworks and incentives for an actual transition towards a circular economy in the building sector. Thank you to our panelists Marco Pedroso, Paulo Ferrão e Pedro Mêda for your insights. The event had also the representation from the Norwegian Embassy in Lisbon.

You can already download one of the circularity tools developed under the project, from GitHub repository.

All the reports and resources will be uploaded until the end of year. Stay tuned!

Final Event Circular EcoBIM

September 22, 2022

The final event of the Circular EcoBIM project, funded by EEA Grants, will take place on October 3rd between 4 and 6:30 pm, offering the possibility of in-person or virtual attendance.

The Circular EcoBIM project focused on developing a set of Building Information Modeling (BIM)-based tools to enable a circular construction model. The tools allow the assessment and management of circular buildings to promote the reuse, recovery, and recycling of construction materials while considering the environmental impacts of these activities.

The event will be divided into two central moments: the presentation of the project results and a round table discussion with experts in the field.
The presentation of the results will include the showcase of the BIM based tools that were developed under the project: i) the database that collects information about the circular potential of construction materials, ii) the software plugins that allow calculating a circularity passport, LEVEL(s) system indicators and Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) based on the building design, and iii) Digital Twin platform.

The presentation of the results will be followed by a round table to share ideas about the future of digitization of circular construction.

Join Circular EcoBIM on Industrial Ecology Day

April 27, 2021

Join the team from the Circular EcoBIM project, financed by EEA Grants Portugal, during the Industrial Ecology Day on June 21st, an exciting 24-our international online event to reconnect with peers.

We will host a session called “Improving building circularity through BIM/LCA integration”. The goal of this session is to share research agendas of circular buildings to enable increased recovery, reuse and recycling of construction materials. The session will start with current methodologies including Building Information Modelling (BIM)/LCA integration and its application to singular building (elements). Moreover, the analysis of circular material use in building stocks will be discussed. Bottom-up building stock models allow spatializing material use and resources, while simultaneously looking at future housing demand and renovation need in cities. This session focuses on the embodied impacts of new construction and renovation of urban (residential and non-residential) building stocks.

Selected abstracts will be invited to give a presentation and participate in the panel discussion.

The session will therefore be organized as follows: five presentations from selected speakers (12 minutes each), followed by a moderated panel discussion of the speakers (30 minutes) and an open Q&A (15 minutes).

More information and abstract submission here.

Circular Ecobim Kick-Off Session

February 4, 2021

A public online session took place in December 10 to kick off the Circular EcoBIM project. The consortium discussed the opportunities of combining BIM with environmental information and describe the proposed digital tools. The recording of the webinar is available here.
